Socks are your most important clothing item (along with underwear). They can make or break your enjoyment by either encouraging or preventing blisters.

Blisters happen (see there) when skin rubs against something. They generally can’t be fully avoided and are a fact of life on the Camino. But good socks can reduce or even prevent many of them.

Some companies offer dual-layer socks, Wright Socks being the bigger and first brand. Those socks have two layers which will slide against each other, thus taking the “rubbing” instead of your feet themselves.

If you’re not in the market for those, hiking socks with wicking action do help a good deal, since they keep your sweaty feet drier.

Finally, always try your socks with your shoes to make sure both fit snugly and comfortably with each other.
